Need Area Description

This service package for a US–based 511–type service provides tailored information in response to a traveler request. Both real–time interactive request/response systems and information systems that "push" a tailored stream of information to the traveler based on a submitted profile are supported. The traveler can obtain current information regarding border crossing wait times, traffic conditions, roadway maintenance and construction, detours and pricing information. A variety of interactive devices may be used by the traveler to access information prior to a trip or en–route including phone via a 511–like portal, kiosk, Personal Digital Assistant, personal computer, or a variety of in–vehicle devices. This service package also allows value–added resellers to collect transportation information that can be aggregated and be available to their personal devices or remote traveler systems to better inform their customers of transportation conditions. A traveler may also input personal preferences and identification information via a "traveler card" that can convey information to the system about the traveler as well as receive updates from the system so the card can be updated over time.
