CHP – Commercial Vehicle SectionProvide systems to detect presence of dangerous goods at roadside facilities and inform public safety of any incidents.
Coordinate commercial vehicle credentialing with provincial commercial vehicle departments.
Exchange credentials and credentials status information with FMCSA.
Exchange credentials and status information involving carrier and driver registration with IRP.
Exhange credentials and status information involving fuel taxes with IFTA.
Perform oversize/ overweight enforcement.
Support the application and payment for commercial vehicle credentials.
Operate and maintain roadside inspection facilities to monitor commercial vehicle safety, credentials, and compliance with state and federal regulations, including the use of electronic communications with the vehicles and with central databases.
FMCSAFMCSA stores and maintains accident, violation, and safety records on commercial vehicles, drivers, and carriers and provide the information upon request to the states for electronic clearance and roadside safety activities.
FMCSA provides state and provincial commercial vehicle operations agencies with up–to–date verification of a driver's credentials during clearance and/or inspection activity.
Mexican Baja Coordinación Estatal de Protección CivilCommunicate with commercial vehicle carriers to determine the exact chemicals involved in a dangerous goods spill.
Respond to calls from commercial vehicle drivers about dangerous goods spills.
Private Commercial CarriersSend a credential application to the provincial and state commercial vehicle operations adminstration agencies including the necessary audit data, tax information, and fee payments as applicable.
Exchange safety inspection records and screening records from on–board equipment to the provincial and state commercial vehicle operations roadside facilities.
Notify the appropriate emergency services or public safety agency in the event of a hazardous materials (dangerous goods) spill.
Provide credentials and identification data to the provincial and state commercial vehicle operations roadside facilities.
US Customs and Border ProtectionMaintain a commercial vehicle check point inland from the border crossing to support weigh–in–motion and security inspections.
US Emergency Management Agencies (OME)Communicate with commercial vehicle carriers to determine the exact chemicals involved in a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) spill.
